The 2022 and inaugural CoC award goes Dr. Julie Parchet-Piccand for her project on improving the knowledge of experimental licenses and research projects for animal caretakers.

In order to support our animal caretakers in a useful continuing education process and to increase their commitment and knowledge of the licences, Dr. Julie Parchet-Piccand has set up a theoretical training course on the content of the licences and the implications for their work. 

Each training session consists in presenting the background and procedures of three licences, and is validated as 45min of continuous education. After four training sessions, an animal caretaker will be granted 1/2 day of continuing education. Additionally, the main points and procedures of each license are summarized on an information sheet that is displayed in the animal facility, where the animals in question are maintained. Animal caretakers can refer to it at any time to ensure best follow-up of the animals. 

This project has a real added-value, as it does not only positively affect the welfare of experimental animals, but also, very importantly, improves the work experience of animal caretakers.
