Early Career Researchers Network (ECRN)

The 3RCC Early Career Researchers Network (ECRN) unites young researchers that approach animal experimentation from different angles. It offers the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with other scientists developing different experimental models.
Whether you are working with animal species, establishing in vitro models, refining veterinary procedures, tailoring statistical methods, or inventing new in silico methods, you have a place in the network! Contact us to join the network at info@swiss3rcc.org.

3Rs at the Pint of Science!

The Pint of Science is an amazing project in which scientists take their science from their institutions to public spaces around the city. We would like to have 3Rs presentations in cities across Switzerland and to do this, we need your involvement! So, are you interested in doing something in your city? Complete this form and let us know where and how you would like to co-create an event!

Cookie Catch Up! A monthly 3Rs learning event

The ERCN Cookie Catch Up is a monthly 30-minute online event in which we will have a short-form presentation, discussion about that presentation and then some open space for general 3Rs chat.

Our first Cookie Catch Up of 2025 will take place on February 20th at 1pm CET. We have the pleasure of iniviting Noémie Mazare who will talk about Open Science. More information here.

In 2024 we hosted nine Cookie Catch Ups featuring inspiring and interesting 3Rs conversation. We will be back in 2025 with more cookie fueled chats!

You can find out what we learned about in 2024 here.

December 2024 - The Art of Presenting with Confidence with Amy Carroll

In this one-day workshop in Bern we welcomed Amy Carroll of Carroll Communications. Amy led 12 participants through processes that can support their communication when talking to people one-on-one and when presenting to large audiences.

These processes included how you can manage your body language and intonation to present in a more structured and professional way.

It was a delight to learn from Amy's techniques for presenting and we are thankful for the opportunity to use these new found skills in the coming months!

May 2024 - 3RCC 3Rs Hackathon

In this one-day on-site workshop we brought together researcher from varynig fields and teamed them up to devise and co-create their own 3Rs projects. Groups were guided in the processes of ideation, collaborative problem solving and project creation by expert mentors, Alexandra Bezler from EPFL and Felix Gantenbein from UZH. Each group then pitched their idea for a 3Rs project and awards were given to the most innovative ideas.

The whole team was blown away by the impressive innovation and team work demonstrated. We are looking forward to running this and similar projects again in the future.

December 2023 - ECRN Wokshop: Bringing Story to the 3Rs

The December 2023 ECRN event, "Bringing Story to the 3Rs," brought together a dynamic community of young researchers committed to advancing the principles of replacement, reduction, and refinement of animals in scientific research.  Dr. Maike Heimann, in a thought-provoking session, explored the significance, challenges, and effective communication processes surrounding the 3Rs. During the coffee and vegan cookie break, the group took part in the collaborative creation of an early version of our network's manifesto, a document that outlines what we want from the 3RCC ECRN and the collaborative environment we want to create.

Later in the afternoon, Hedwig Ens from Sam Speaks Science provided a captivating exploration of the history of storytelling, offering practical insights on its application to communicating the importance of animals in scientific research. Hedwig also gave feedback on how we present, looking at how we do, or do not, physically engage with the audience.

We are energized by the momentum gained and the positive impact this event promises for the ECRN and the future of 3Rs practices here in Switzerland.
