Animal Use in Swiss Science 2017-2019

Goal: Good 3Rs Practice
Mandate: Monitoring

Background

The Bundesamt für Lebensmittelsicherheit und Veterinärwesen (BLV), annually releases an overview of the numbers of animals used in experiments in Switzerland. This information is kept relatively basic (due to legal grounds), compared to annual reports released in the UK for example.

Aim

Here, we aim to use the information provided from completed/expired animal licences to create a more “readable” report, with more detailed statistics on the type of research, severity degree and species. The report will be made available to the public and will contain data for the 3 year period from 2017 to 2019.
