Bachelor Courses on 3Rs Education

Goal: Good 3Rs Practice
Mandate: Education

Background

Students at the Bachelor level in life sciences, medical, veterinary, environment, agricultural sciences, pharmacy, and others should learn the concept of the 3Rs Principle concerning animal experimentation. Currently, however, only a subset of such bachelor students across all the HEIs are being taught the 3Rs Principle as part of their core obligatory curriculum.

Aim

This project aims to develop a nationwide educational program on the 3Rs Principle (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) at the Bachelor Level as part of the core courses in life sciences, medical, veterinary, environment, agricultural sciences, pharmacy, and any other potential degree of relevance. The 3RCC, through its Node Coordinators, would then recommend the implementation of such a course at each Higher Education Institution (HEI). A teaching material of a model course will be developed.

Output

i) map of existing 3Rs courses in Swiss HEIs
ii) Recommendations on a minimal set of topics essential to a Bachelor program
iii) teaching material and slides.
